On planned gathering days, we dress in our finest Victorian/Edwardian or Steampunk wear and join together to socialize and share in one another's company. We organize and attend picnics. We get together to go to special locations for dinner or plan trips, such as a recent expedition to Decatur, Indiana to meet at Famous Monsters Pizza and enjoy a day out in a Steampunk way. We attend events, such as Steampunk Themed Festivals and Conventions. Festivals, such as the Old Washington Street Festival, are a fun favorite, held annually in Muncie, Indiana. We also organize with other groups to share in our revelry. The ideas for getting together are endless, and we are always open to new suggestions. Mission Safe Zone
We welcome ALL people. Bigotry, bullying, and/or intimidation will not be tolerated. Every individual is welcome and is expected to be welcoming of others regardless of Age, Ethnicity, Sex, Disability, Sexual Orientation, Gender Identity, Religious or Political Affiliation.
We are a drama-free zone. Meaning we do not tolerate chaos and drama.
If you dislike or disagree with another‘s personal views and/or preferences, please keep those views to yourself. We expect members and friends to be respectful of others and to use proper (dare we say Victorian) manners when interacting. If one happens to be confronted with controversial subjects in conversation or behavior, we recommend that one politely excuse one’s self and steps away, rather than engaging further. If it is not possible to follow this recommendation, one or both parties may be asked to leave our group permanently. While the Steampunk Consortium is a social group formed to enjoy the aesthetic of the Victorian/Edwardian period (1837 - 1914), as well as some Dieselpunk, Goth and Wild West themed attire and characters, we also intend to build and maintain a “Safe Zone” for our members and friends so everyone involved may feel welcomed, find friendship, acceptance and be supported while doing so.
We hope the Steampunk Consortium will be a safe and welcoming place for all people. We are a work in progress, and will continue to seek out the best way to meet our objective.
What is Steampunk? Well, as it has been said, if you ask 100 people involved with Steampunk about Steampunk, you will get 105 responses and all of them will be correct. Over all, there are a few rules along the way, which in the Consortium we are mindful of, but also find that it is easily tempered with the element of "Time Travel" being applied. Which means, if your character is a time traveller, pretty much everything is open for adaption to your persona. But, you hold on to the basics of Victorian or Wild West style and clothing with a few modern adaptions. Modern technology items are especially adaptable. Like a good time traveller, who is wanting to preserve the natural course of things, and not interfere, most "modern tech" can be disguised as other items. Such as a cell phone being hidden in a book cover. However, in some cases, displaying the modern element is a wonderful indication of distinction between "reenactment" and "fantasy" of Victorian or Wild West themes. It's really all up to the individual as thaw they wish to be transported into steampunk. If it all seems confusing, trust me it is. Each individual has their own back story and a set of presentation rules. When coming together in a group, it is a wide variety of individuality and comradery all meshed together to form a wonderful sense of unity and a colorful cosplay. If you're still wanting more information about Steampunk in general please follow the link below. It will raise more questions for you, I'm sure. But, don't be discouraged, come to a meeting, an event, or meet up with one or a group of steampunks and have a conversation. Witness the characters and as you go along, you will find that you too may have a little steampunk inside you ready to come out.
